Dear Nativity Family,

I write the words to you on the day after the horrific school shooting in Uvalde, Texas and on the day before the Feast of the Ascension. I am filled with grief. Words are difficult. With the Psalmist I find myself crying out, “How long, O Lord, how long?” Prayer is essential; action seems in order. While I often shy away from the political arena, I urge you to write to our House of Representative members and to our Senators. The time for action is upon us.

On Sunday, we will gather for a service of Healing and Holy Eucharist. I had planned on this service prior to yesterday’s news. I believe we must offer prayers for the whole world; ask for healing here and abroad; and be ready to act for peace efforts. Please join me this Sunday at 10:30. I will bring the oil of unction to anoint anyone in our community. As we mourn the loss of innocent children, I bid your prayers for the parents, the shool staff, the first responders, the hospital personnel and for the funeral directors and clergy who are called to be a part of this unsettling event. May our prayers, and the prayers of others move the hearts and minds of legislatures to act decisively.

As we join together on Sunday, we will observe silence at the beginning of the service. Please enter quietly and reflectively.

Thank you for being the Nativity Family. Thank you for being a loving presence in Water Valley and beyond. Thank you for allowing me to share in your journey.

Faithfully,

Ann +
