Nativity Newsletter

Dear Nativity Family, It is a beautiful spring day following the storms of Wednesday. I noted that we are under a freeze warning for tonight! The weather seems to often mirror the craziness of our world. However, Easter is on its way!

The painting I have included for this Newsletter is by Van Gogh. It is entitled The Raising of Lazarus. You might wish to sit with this painting and meditate on our upcoming Gospel for this week. What does this story of Lazarus say to you? What might this Gospel lesson require of you?

Last Sunday, I had the good fortune to listen to the sermon given at the Washington National Cathedral by the Dean, The Very Rev. Randolph Marshall Hollerith. I posted it to our Nativity Facebook page, but here is a link for the sermon. It is worth your time! It, too, is a good piece to reflect on as we continue to move toward the end of Lent. 3.27.22 National Cathedral Sermon by Randy Hollerith - Bing video

This is also the season of planting seeds. I would like to plant a seed for our life together following Easter. I am proposing as a faith community that we read The Book of Joy by the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu. It is a powerful book as we live into Resurrection Joy. In his recent meeting with the clergy of the Diocese, Bishop Seage shared the Mission Joy website with us. I ask that you explore this with me; you may find out more on this website: Home - Mission Joy Please share your thoughts with me! Our world certainly needs more joy!

This Sunday, our own Kathryn York will be confirmed by Bishop Seage at St. Peter’s. Please keep Kathryn in your prayers. We will welcome her back on Palm Sunday, April 10.

Many thanks to all of you who attended Morning Prayer last Sunday and also enjoyed the Fellowship time. Thank you, Alexe, for gathering everyone together and a special thanks to Sprint Mart for the coffee.

As we approach Holy Week, continue to look for the beauty each day that surrounds us: the blooms that appear, the song of the birds, the gift of a safe place to worship and the joy of our journey. And–the joy of one another. And drop in to be a part of the Bible Slam! Thanks for being a part of the Nativity family.

Faithfully,

Ann +

Vicar
