Reflections
The Watermelon Festival is right around the corner (August 5). Last year, my first Festival, was a blast. I can’t wait!
Nativity is planning what is hoped to be two relatively high profile events to serve local needs and to introduce the town to our community at Nativity. We need your help with both events.
Free Lemonade Stand on the Salt and Light Building Front Porch- As has been done the past two years, we will be offering free lemonade and an air conditioned respite for the always very hot festival goers. We will serve the lemonade from the front porch of the Salt and Light Building. Rocking chairs, anyone?
Help Needed: Volunteers to staff the lemonade stand. A sign up sheet with times will be in the back table of the church on Sunday.
Book Sale to Benefit Friends of the Blackmur Library- The Friends of the Blackmur Library will have a book sale inside the Salt and Light Building on festival day. Air condition, anyone?
Help Needed: Donations of books would be very helpful. You may drop them off at the Salt and Light building or the church. Per the President of the Friends of the Blackmur Library, after hours you may leave the books on the Salt and Light front porch.
Thanks for all your help. It should be a great day!
Other Matters of Importance
Sacred Ground Introductory Sessions Begin on Sunday
I will be hosting three introductory sessions this week to talk in more detail about the Sacred Ground course, share curriculum materials and schedule, and answer your questions about this unique spiritual journey of race and faith. The sessions will take place in church after worship this Sunday, July 30 and, again, on Sunday, August 6. I will also offer a similar session at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, June 2 at the TIN building on South Main. If you are interested in participating in the course, please plan to attend one of these gatherings. Formal registration for the course will take place at the introductory sessions.
Church Directory Final Mark Up
After months of gathering information by Jenni Campbell and Tina Frizzell we are about ready to publish a church directory. Over the next few weeks we will have the first draft of this directory available in the back of the church for your additions and corrections. Please check your contact information for accuracy.
This directory will greatly help our communications and strengthen our common life. Please help us make it a viable resource for this congregation.
Tina Frizzell Appointed to Serve At St. Peter’s
This Sunday will mark Tina’s last Sunday with us as “full time” deacon. Bishop Seage has assigned her, beginning next week, to work primarily with the congregation of St. Peter’s, Oxford. However, we are not saying goodbye to Tina, as she will continue to work with Nativity, though on a much more limited basis.
Thanks, Tina, for your work among us. We look forward to continuing that relationship!
Pilgrimage to Selma and Montgomery, Alabama: September 20-22
I will be one of the leaders in a pilgrimage to the Equal Justice Initiative(Montgomery), with a side trip to Selma, Alabama, in September. I’ve been to both places previously, and can attest to the spiritual power of these places. The pilgrimage is being sponsored by the Beloved Community ministry of the Diocese of Mississippi. For detailed information on this pilgrimage please contact the Rev. Canon Andy Andrews (andrews@dioms.org).
