Reflections

Watermelon Carnival is upon us. Nativity is passing out free lemonade at the Salt and Light building. Hosts are still needed to staff the Lemonade stand. Give James McCormick a call- (662)312-6625- if you can volunteer a hour or so to pass out lemonade.

Also, the Friends of the Library are having a book sale at the building. Come buy some books for a great cause.

If all else fails, come rock yourself to sleep in our wonderful new rocking chairs. Word to the wise- in this heat, morning rocking is much better than afternoon rocking!

Other Matters of Importance

Sacred Ground Begins This Week- August 9

We will be having one last introduction session- this Sunday, August 6, in the church immediately following worship. It is at these sessions that interested persons can formally enroll in the course. If you are sure that you want to participate in this “spiritual journey of race and faith”, but cannot be at this last introduction session, please let me know as soon as possible.

In addition to a substantial amount of online material, the primary texts are

Jesus and the Disinherited by Howard Thurmond and Waking Up White by Debby Irving. Each participant is responsible for purchasing these texts ( the only cost for the course), so order them now if you will be participating.

Mission Committee Meets Tuesday, August 8 at 6:00 pm

At this meeting we will be welcoming our new church treasurer, Robbie Fisher, and giving thanks for the great work of our outgoing treasurer, Kathryn York, over the past 2+ years.

See you at the Watermelon Carnival, and if we all survive the heat, on Sunday!

Blessings and Peace,

Duncan
