Reflections

Reflections

This Sunday we begin Holy Week- that most somber, and ultimately, the most joyous of weeks in the Christian calendar. I hope you can make the time to join your Nativity community on this solemn and holy journey from the Hosannas to the shouts of “Crucify Him!” toward the empty tomb on Easter morning.

Palm Sunday- 10:30 am: Blessing of Palms( at the front steps) and procession

     into church, Passion Narrative read in parts, Holy Eucharist

Monday in Holy Week- 5:30pm: Holy Eucharist and Unction ( anointing with oil

     and prayers for healing)

Wednesday in Holy Week-7:30am: Holy Eucharist (quiet and meditative)

Maundy Thursday- 6:30pm: Holy Eucharist, foot washing(optional), stripping of

     altar

Good Friday- 12:00 noon:  Liturgy of Good Friday ( a solemn time of prayer)

Easter Sunday-10:30 am: Holy Eucharist, special music, Alleluia! banner,

     acolytes

Other Matters of Interest

Small Church Conference: April 12-13 @ Grace Church, Canton

The newly formed Commission on Small Churches is sponsoring the first annual

(hopefully) conference for small churches next month in Canton. The purpose of this conference is to offer new ideas for smaller churches, to begin to establish a resource network among the churches in the diocese and to offer creative insight and thoughts from an outside speaker. If you are interested in attending please see the Vicar for further details.

Thursday Night Dinners During Easter

Interested in having dinner together?

We want to have weekly dinners for our church family at the Salt and Light Building during April and May-all are invited! The tentative plan is to share dinner during these two months, take a break in June and July, and resume in August with the start of the school year. We need a committee to work together to make these events come to life. The Mission Committee has authorized some funds for providing food and support.

Our goal is to share our first meal on Thursday evening April 4th. We want to make it inviting, easy and fun for all.

If you are interested in helping out please reach out to Juawice McCormick:

juawice@gmail.com  or 662-617-4626 or add your name to the sign up sheet in the back of the church.

Blessing Box Suggestions for Volunteers

The Mission Committee has asked that we give renewed attention to the ministry of the Blessing Box in a variety of ways:

1. We will be asking that folks bring cans of food to church from time to time and place them in the basket in the rear of the church to supplement the food supply for the Blessing Box;

2. Volunteers are still needed to be responsible for months during the year. The sign up sheet is in the back of the church.

3. For those who volunteer to care for the Blessing Box during the month the following are offered as suggestions:

     *3-4 items per day works well. If the box is crammed full of stuff, it can be a temptation for abuse.

     *A good staple item to always have on hand is cans of hearty soup. Larsen’s brand is good. They have twelve flavors. Good to have 3 cans of each flavor on hand in case the Box is empty.

     * Other good items:

          Rice and beans

          Pasta and sauce

          Canned fruit and vegetables

          Soap, shampoo, toothpaste

          Feminine hygiene products

     *Sometimes donors stop by and fill the box. Wonderful! But best to bring some of the donations inside and dole them out over several days.

Thanks for your support of this special ministry!

Blessings and Peace.

See you Sunday!
